Nineteen of Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been achieved on hard courts

A revitalized Daniil Medvedev secured his initial championship for over two years with success over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

Medvedev, a ex- top-ranked player, has experienced a difficult period, achieving just a single victory at the major tournaments and experiencing a difficult moment at the US Open.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serve in specific - led to him dropping out of the top ten and eventually splitting with long-time coach his previous coach.

Presently training with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, he has steadily improved in the recent weeks - culminating in a tightly fought three-set win over opponent Corentin Moutet.

This marks his maiden championship after the Italian tournament and first on a hard court after that period of 2023.

The win also means Medvedev has achieved twenty-one championships at 21 different competitions.

"It's the first time I'm at a competition with my two daughters together, so to get a trophy is really nice," commented world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in dedication of my child Victoria, because the initial championship I achieved when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his last six finals, including in Halle previously this season.

The player's defensive approach and recurring outbursts on the playing surface had caused commentators to question if his skill to compete at the top level was concluded.

However the athlete has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, striving to approach the net and perform positively, reinforced by an enhanced serve.

He recovered from a break down in the opening set against the tricky Moutet, securing four of the final five games to go ahead.

Both players exchanged breaks in the middle set before the Frenchman, bidding for his initial ATP Tour championship, gained dominance to create a decider.

Moutet rescued four initial break points in a tight final set before the champion broke to 15 to secure the win.

Appropriately, he clinched the win with a point at the net area, with the Frenchman unable to control a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
